You’re excited, I’m excited; heaps of the best and worst writing you’ve ever seen will be blossoming onto these pages during the next month. I don’t know what the plot or style or mood will be other than it will 50,000 words and it will not involve vampires or amnesia-riddled soviet spies.
For the uninformed, this site will be documenting the efforts of Danny McMaken (me) as a participant in National Novel Writing Month 2009 (www.nanowrimo.org). Check it out, you can do it too!
If you’re interested, the novels I have read in the past few months (whose influence I cannot help but feel) have been in chronological order: Huckleberry Finn, Julie & Julia, Anna Karenina, 2 Years Before The Mast, Absalom, Absalom!, and The Voyage Out (although I have only finished half of it and probably will not finish to be honest. Sorry Virginia Woolf). A smattering of these is a sure recipe for success.
You will be able to find my writings under the 2009 at the top of the page as I update them, which should be every few days. Again, I don’t really have a direction for this so I cannot promise anything exciting, profound, or (perhaps, but hopefully not) even worth reading. Take it or leave it. Thanks for your interest and feel free to give me any tips, plot suggestions, or encouragement like “good luck Danny this is the most fantastic thing I have ever read and I want a copy of it ASAP for me and my whole family!!1″
Thank you joel for this amazing website, you are the best.
